The Munupi Lodge View
Just
imagine! You are pleasantly tired from a big day on
the water. You've just had a refreshing shower, and
an equally refreshing drink. (Perhaps you have you
feet up - your choice!) You
are sitting comfortably in the bar area of Munupi
Wilderness Lodge, perched high on a cliff. A few
moments ago several Magpie Geese flew straight over
head, flying in a single "V" towards their roost on
Bathurst Island, now a mere silhouette in the
approaching twilight. |

Dolphins
Yesterday at this
time there was a school of dolphins, ranging from a
big dominant bull, a few anxious parents and a
couple of their young, having a training session
feeding on a school of fish, right in front of the
Lodge.
Today the tide has gone out a little further,
exposing the big sandbank further up the straight.
There, as you now expect, lies the big saltwater
crocodile, sixteen foot if an inch, also enjoying
the remains of the day. |

Constant activity
Suddenly the silence is broken by a sharp "crack" as
a big barramundi terrorizes the mullet population
who are desperately seeking cover in the mangroves
at the foot of the cliff. "BOOF!" Woops, too
late! The sun has nearly gone and the orange
mackerel sky is slowly turning to a deep crimson
red, causing the whole world to gradually glow a
vivid pink: even the air seems to be taking on a new
dimension. |

Bird of all types
A chorus of Lorikeet
Parrots that has been providing background music
high in the palms all day, slowly draws their
symphony to an end.
All is well.
A lonely pair of brolgas float effortlessly past,
just above the tree line, seemingly enjoying the
moment more than with any fixed destination in mind. |

and Fantasy
On the green grass
in front of the Lodge, that is no longer really
green, three small wallabies have come to share in
the quiet time before dark.
Suddenly the silence is broken, as the host Michael
Benton sings out from the bar. "All drinks on the
house!"
Sorry, just kidding! |
